"I’ve been on an individualised programme for ~1 year now. At first I was sceptical; I’d always exercised in team sports or a class format and I was worried that I’d be less motivated and less accountable on the individualised programme. I couldn’t have been more wrong! My coach (Lee) has been fantastic at listening to my goals, checking in with me throughout the week, responding to my questions and commenting on my results (which I upload via an app). I regularly video my performance and ask my coach to comment, and there are always demo videos to show the correct technique. If anything, I feel more accountable and motivated now than before! A major plus to the service is the time and effort that my coach puts in to making your programme completely bespoke for you and your body. I never feel like I am doing a ‘pre-set’ programme. The coach’s at BASE often call themselves a ‘coach for life’ and this approach has definitely affected how I view exercise. I now listen to my body far more and exercise to support a long and healthy life, rather than thrashing myself in an AMRAP or HIIT class three times a week. I still do AMRAPs etc. but my training is far more balanced now. This hasn’t meant a dip in performance either - I’ve still hit a number of PBs this year.  

My coach recently designed my training for a charity trek in The Himalayas. In addition to creating a perfect programme, he gave me lots of tips and tricks from his time in the army and personal hiking trips. I’m now training for my 4th half marathon and following coachs’ lead in the hope of securing a PB. Rather than slogging away at cardio workouts for months on end, I’ve got a super-varied programme and already improved my mins/km by over 20 seconds. If you’re considering starting an individualised programme with BASE - give it a go! You won’t regret it.”

“When I moved overseas, my coach cut back my workout volume and intensity. I said to him “Coach, this is crap! Gimme my normal workouts!
