9th tip of Christmas- Look after yourself

With so much happening over the Christmas and New Year holiday, it is easy to get run down and feel ill. This is usually a result of trying to get too much done and not looking after yourself properly. So here are a few things you can do to make sure that you don’t end up getting ill.

Get the fruit and veg in. Christmas dinner and snacks tend to revolve around meat and brown coloured food. So reach for colour whenever possible as a result of this you’ll make sure you get enough vitamins and minerals, especially vitamin C.

Even though it’s warm at the moment, make sure you keep wrapped up in cold weather to avoid runny noses. Lots of us are training for the Cambridge half marathon so make sure you don’t get cold on your training runs.

Get enough vitamin D, which can be difficult at this time of year because of the lack of exposure to sunlight. A lot of us are deficient in this vital vitamin as a result of it. Make sure you get yours by eating foods containing it like oily fish and egg yolks. Where possible get out in the sun for a walk. If both of these are a hard task then consider taking a supplement so you keep feeling tip top.
